ICT4ClimateAction Workshop at UN HQ NYC
Building the Information and Communication Technology Infrastructure
for Multistakeholder Climate Action with Blockchain/DLT
Venue: United Nations Headquarters, New York, Conference room A
Time: 3.00 – 4.15 PM
The event had at its core a presentation of the work of the multistakeholder partnership for global climate action empowerment #GloCha www.glocha.org and the multistakeholder network of experts in the field of blockchain for climate action, the Climate Chain Coalition www.climatechaincoalition.io (presented by Miroslav Polzer) and a discussion about the present and future contributions that both organizations make to the work of the United Nations in the field of blockchain technology for (youth) climate action.
To exemplify the innovation potential of these new technologies for particular stakeholder groups, there has been a presentation on innovative financing of cities through blockchain based micro- bonds (Ben Bartlett, City of Berkeley, California) and a discussion with Susanna Choe (Peace Accelerators, Y2X) about innovative blockchain based funding for public good/SDGs oriented startups.
Matthew Slater (Credit Commons) has added some perspectives on how innovative (ICT based) monetary systems can help local communities to take climate action and to achieve sustainable development goals.
The concluding part of the event has been devoted to the planning of a side event to the UN Science, Technology and Innovation Forum in May 2019 on “Building the ICT infrastructure for the Climate Action Impact Economy” and potential contributions to the UN SG Climate Summit and UN Climate Change Conference COP25.
