(chapter 10 ACUNS, starting at minute 51:20)
The United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) constitutes one of the principal organs of the United Nations. It is responsible for coordinating the economic, social and related work of 14 UN specialized agencies, their functional commissions and five regional commissions. ECOSOC has 54 members; it holds a four-week session each year in July. The ECOSOC serves as the central forum for discussing international economic and social issues, and for formulating policy recommendations addressed to member states and the United Nations system. A number of non-governmental organizations are granted Consultative Status to the Council in order to participate in the work of the United Nations.

The 2013 ECOSOC AMR session has been very important for IAAI also because of the fact that IAAI has received ECOSOC special consultative status there http://www.un.org/ga/search/view_doc.asp?symbol=E/2013/32http://www.un.org/ga/search/view_doc.asp?symbol=E/2013/32(PartII).
